neighborhood lifelong native New York City taxi driver.

They have places to go and people to see. The whole idea of Rush Hour is a bad joke. They are all running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Trying to get somewhere or nowhere quickly.
Experienced travelers always take this into account.
Here is a
rule of thumb. Expect the unexpected.
How do I know this?
Yellow taxi drivers have spent thousands of hours experiencing this directly.
There are no shortage of Subways, Buses, Ferry's & Commuter Rail Roads to connect you with your destiny or destination. Visiting Uncle Mario or Aunt Maria in the 'burbs from the Great Elsewhere, they will put it down so you can pick it up.
You take bus X to subway Y. Then divide ferry Z by commuter railroad W.
Simple, just like the horrible algebra class you took.
Now, solve the equation.
Of course, you are staring at your mobile phone.
Lost & confused. You are not alone.
to this complicated problem is to talk to another human being.
I know, I know having social intercourse with others can be a problem.
They may be angry, exhausted and time
But,the residents of New York City are a helpful lot.
Lead, Follow or Get out of the Way.
NYC are how most of us get to and from places.
Driving in NYC may be an option. It may or may not be a good option.
In most other places you drive. New York City is Not like other places.
I drive a yellow taxi cab.
I do not own a car.The fact of the matter is I have been riding subways before I was born when my mother was pregnant with me. Mama Mia ! ! !
Many of these web pages you are reading have been created on the subway.
We do our
best work sitting down. I can be
naïve and stupid. It amazes me
there are no subways in most places.

Buses in NYC are public transportation or transportorture.
There is less craziness above ground, then below ground. However, there is still plenty of insanity for you and me.
When I ride a bus at 2:00 AM, I do not want to make a fashion
statement. I want to look like a cop or criminal. The Idea is you don't want
strangers to mess with you.
Do not misunderstand me, NYC is one of the safest places on this planet.

My wife has on more than several occasions commented on my raggedy appearance.

You do not argue with your wife, police officer or Hells Angels. Logic or Common sense has nothing to do with it. You will never win the argument.
For those of
you who are not familiar, NYC has transponders on all their buses. It is easy
to figure out, where they are.
Type in your
Voila ...You now know where your bus is.
The Port Authority Bus Terminal is the connection point for commuters and visitors from New Jersey and the Great Else Where.
For the record, I'm not a fan of this place. I have a memory of being a youth and cutting school. I was inside the subway station underground. A jail bird asked me for a contribution. It was an offer I could not refuse. This was in the 1970's. New York City was a different place.

Commuter Rail Roads help those nice suburban folks get in and out of NYC.
This saves them wear and tear on their automobiles. Which they need to get around anyway. Driving and parking in NYC is not fun.
